El Jaguar: Siltepec, Mexico

Mexico is the world’s 8th-largest producer of coffee by volume, around 50% of that production coming from the Chiapas region on Mexico’s southern border. With that volume of production, distinguishing a micro-region, let alone a producer or set of producers, can be a feat. That’s what makes NKG’s Jaguar project in the Siltepec and Frontera micro-regions so unique. The producers who contribute to Jaguar haven’t only set themselves apart within the region on quality grounds, but also with their sustainability practices. Jaguar selected from the NKG Bloom project, which was born from efforts to support farmers through a Leaf Rust epidemic in 2014 by focusing on high quality inputs, seedlings, and financing, among other initiatives.

Smooth is the word for this coffee: from its low-acid profile to the layers of chocolate and nutty sweetness and the lingering finish, nothing steps out-of-line.
